Ikea stools to Toadstools

On one of my many trawls on Pinterest I came across a picture of Ikea kids stools which had the cutest little cushions added to them to make them look like toadstools.

Now, as is evident by our logo, I have a bit of a thing for toadstools :) So with Emmie getting to the age where a wee table to sit at for snacks, crafts and jigsaws was needed I thought they would be perfect for her. I had been looking at little tables for a while but I like things that are just a little different from the norm.

I had had a look in my favourite little furniture and bits and bobs shop "a country affair" in Kinross. We had found a lovely little old wooden rocking kids chair for Emmie just before she was born, but this time they had nothing that could be used as or turned into a kids table and chairs :( so when I spotted this idea on Pinterest I thought it was perfect.

This is the original Pinterest picture. You can see it along with other projects I have pinned for future inspiration for Emmie and Noah on our Pinterest board here.
The Ikea stools and little lack table cost us £15 for all three, a bargain I thought and we had plenty fabric and ribbon to make the covers without having to buy anything for them :)

The original had the toadstools as very puffy cushions but I wanted something that was more of a cover for the stool than cushions as I figure they will be getting lots of use and would only end up getting flattened anyway plus this way they can very easily be taken off and washed so any little accidents at snack or craft time can easily be cleaned up :)

I used my dining plates as a pattern to create the cover as they were the correct size and sewed on some little white spots and cute wee green ribbon ties to attach them to the stools and then stuffed them with a thin wadding which I quilted in place around the spots to make sure it didn't shift when they inevitably do need washing.

I absolutely love how they turned out and they look so cute in Emmie's wee room.

You could make these little stools into anything, I'm thinking monster faces, or even a ladybug would be very cute. Lorna has made one for Noah that looks like the cookie monster munching a cookie, very cute indeed.

    Baby Doodahs family :)

We are Morvern and Lorna, 31 year old twin sisters and mummies to Emmie, Noah (both 3), Noah's little sister Gorgie (1) and the latest addition to the gang, Emmie's wee sister Maisie :)

We started Baby Doodahs so we can work from home with our little monsters. The mummies do the sewing and the babies help by modeling and testing our products and hinder by crying, grabbing our material, and generally doing baby things.

Here on our blog you can keep up to date with all our latest projects and we will post new fabrics we have been buying and ideas we have for upcoming projects, if anything catches your eye, give us a shout were always happy to do custom orders or design something especially for your wee one.
