A couple of weeks ago we joined in our first baby and toddler show held at the Carnegie conference centre in Dunfermline by the girls at the Fife baby and toddler show.
We had a brilliant time, met lots of lovely new people and sold way more than we ever thought we would :)
A massive thank you to everyone who came along on the day and helped make the event a success and we are now looking forward to joining up with Kerry and her team again for the Perth baby and toddler show in September and then the next Fife baby and toddler show to be held in October this time at the Kingsgate shopping centre.
Here is a pic of our stand set up on the day and we cant wait to meet more of our lovely customers at our next events later in the year.

Butterfly Birthday Baby Dress

1/6/2013

Its Emmie's first birthday coming up and as we also have my best friend’s wedding the same weekend I think something a bit special for Emmie to wear at both is called for. I had looked in the shops for a really pretty wee dress, I wanted something that wouldn't scream with my purple bridesmaids dress but not match it either, but no such luck :( So if I cant buy it then I figured I might as well make her something.

Now I have never made a dress before, Lorna has some grand plans for me to make myself a bridesmaids dress to wear at her wedding in October, hopefully there will be a successful post to follow on this :), so this should at least be a bit of practice and on a much smaller scale.

I found some lovely blue and pink butterfly fabric in our local fabric store and decided on a plain baby pink as the lining.

Im not a huge one for patterns on anything, I prefer to make things up from scratch by myself but I had found this really cute free pattern for the little geranium dress from made by rea.
Its a newborn dress and Emmie is nearly 1 so I got out some of her little dresses and using these and the little geranium pattern I created a pattern that would fit her now. I also wanted it to be pretty full in the skirt so am going to add in a lining to the skirt and an extra layer of ruched fabric to the bottom of the lining. I will leave this hanging longer than the main fabric to give a nice contrast strip at the bottom. I’m also going to pop in a pink sash and bow at the waist, should be really pretty when it’s done.

Pattern done it was time to cut it out, I get really nervous cutting lovely fabrics just incase I haven’t quite done my calculations right so I started with the lining just to be sure. It went together really nicely and all was going fine until it came to putting the lining and the main dress together. Apparantly I hadn’t worked this bit out exactly right and my extra ruched layer at the bottom of the lining ended up being the wrong way round L A lot of unpicking and re pinning and stitching later and Emmie’s little dress was finished and looking really lovely. Im very proud of myself for making it for her and it will definitely be one that is treasured long after she has grown out of it.

The finished dress along with a very cute nappy that matches just perfectly :)

And here it is in action, Emmie and I at my best friends wedding, looks just right with my bridesmaids dress.

    Baby Doodahs family :)

We are Morvern and Lorna, 31 year old twin sisters and mummies to Emmie, Noah (both 3), Noah's little sister Gorgie (1) and the latest addition to the gang, Emmie's wee sister Maisie :)

We started Baby Doodahs so we can work from home with our little monsters. The mummies do the sewing and the babies help by modeling and testing our products and hinder by crying, grabbing our material, and generally doing baby things.

Here on our blog you can keep up to date with all our latest projects and we will post new fabrics we have been buying and ideas we have for upcoming projects, if anything catches your eye, give us a shout were always happy to do custom orders or design something especially for your wee one.
